BCS team led by Dr. Phub Tshering visited Pelkhil School on 22 October, 2022 to raise awareness about head and neck cancer and the role of tobacco in cancer. We were able to reach out to more than 200 students.

The study, Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) Bhutan Report, was launched in 2019. The survey was conducted in 17 dzongkhags where 4,712 students from grades VII to XI were interviewed. Of the total surveyed, 2,344 students were aged 13 to 15 from 50 different schools.
According to the survey, more than four out of 10 (44.3 percent) students started smoking between the age of 12 and 13.
It has become exceedingly important to equip young people with knowledge to make more informed positive choices about tobacco.

Dr Phub spoke about ill effects of tobacco and its role and risk of cancer. Further, he mentioned about the importance of recognizing the early signs and symptoms oral cancer.
We would like to thank the Principal and management of Pelkhil School for your support in the fight against cancer.
