Dr. Ugyen Tshomo, Gynae-oncologist, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital

Dr.Ugyen_TshomoDr. Ugyen Tshomo currently works as Gyne Oncologist in JDWNRH. She received her MBBS degree from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab, India(1985) and PG in Obstetrics and Gynecology (1988). Besides working as Gyne Oncologist, she is a member of SAARC federation of Oncologist (SFO), International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) and European Society of Gynecologic Oncologist (ESGO). She is also the principal investigator for Population Based Cancer Registry in Bhutan since July 2014.

Dr. Tashi Tobgay, Former Register at Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences Bhutan

ttobgayDr Tashi Tobgay received his undergraduate in BSc Honours in Pharmacy from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen Scotland, UK and Masters in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of South Australia. He did his PhD. from the Thammasat University, Thailand. He worked in various capacities including program Manager for Vector borne Disease control Program and as the head of the pharmacy of the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital of Bhutan. His research interests are in malaria and vector borne diseases, health systems and Social issues. Dr. Tashi is the Executive editor for Bhutan Health Journal and Vice Chair for Research Ethics Board for Health in Bhutan.  He also worked as the Registrar at Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences Bhutan. He has published various scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters both in modern and traditional medicine.

Tandin Pemo, Nursing Superintendent Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital

tandinTandin Pemo is currently working as a  Nursing Superintendent at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Nursing Science in 2000 from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia and Masters in Nursing Science in Nursing Administration in 2003 from Burapha University in Thailand. She will be able to provide technical direction to BCS and will be able to provide technical inputs on establishment of care centers and overseeing the the palliative capacity building of both health care providers and caregiver.

Dr. Tashi Dendup Wangdi, Surgical Oncologist, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital

“To contribute in bringing about positive changes in the lives  of cancer  patients & survivors”

tashiDr. Tashi Dendup is the only Surgical Oncologist at JDWNRH and KGUMSB .He completed his MBBS at Sylhet Medical College University of Chittagong and his Masters in General Surgery from the Armed Force Medical College in Pune. He further completed  fellowship in Surgical Oncology at National Cancer Institute, Bangkok.  With many years of expertise and dedication, he serves in the capacity of technical advisor in BCS. He is a General Surgeon and Surgical Oncologist and have served as  past Head of Department of Surgery  in JDWNRH and at present works   with the JDWNRH and KGUMSB. Other than BCS, Dr. Tashi is also currently involved actively in other organizations and is the vice president of SAARC Federation of Oncology, Member executive of SAARC Surgical Society and is also an Asian Editorial Board  member for the South Asian Journal of Cancer (SAJC) and life member of Union of international cancer control(UICC).

Tsewang Rinzing, Managing Director, Sakten Tours and Treks

tshewang_rinzin“I am part of BSC because, my wife is an old cancer patient and by looking after her and doing her treatment, I have gained lots of experience in how to handle cancer patients which may be useful for BCS.”

Mr. Tsewang Rinzing is the Managing Director of Sakten Tours and Treks. He  received his BA degree from St. John’s College in Bangalore, India in 1976. He is the president of Bhutan Amateur Athletic Federation (BAAF) and is member of various CSOs such as Rural Education Foundation (REF), Rotary Club of Thimphu and Jigten Wangchuk Tshogpa. As he has  experience in supporting cancer patient ( his wife), he will be able to direct BCS in position of a caregiver.

Tshering Dolkar , Mental Health Counselor

tshering_dolkarMs. Tshering Dolkar is currently the Director at the counseling department at RENEW,  She received her BA degree from Sherubtse College, Kanglung, Bhutan, PG  in Education from National Institute for Education, Samtse, Bhutan and Masters in Education from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada. She is also  Mental Health Counseling Professional with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the National Board for Certified Counselors, USA.

Dawa Penjor, Former Executive Director, Bhutan Media Foundation

dawa_panjor“I have always believed that service to humanity is one of the greatest practice of a Bodhisattva, so I joined BCS to reinforce my belief in service before self and a commitment to contribute to the Bhutanese society in my own little way. Further, with the growing number of Bhutanese with cancer, it is important that we understand and accept the prevalence and work towards healing and providing support to those in need. Therefore, I committed to the vision and the objective of BCS.”

Mr. Dawa Penjor is  the former Executive Director of Bhutan Media Foundation (BMF). BMF works towards sustaining democracy by developing the Bhutanese media through transformational initiatives that promote quality journalism, advance media innovation, engage communities and foster Freedom of Expression, Information and Press. Dawa has a Bachelor in Life Science from Sherubtse College, Bhutan and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of  Texas at El Paso (UTEP), USA. He also studied Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management at Harvard Business School. He started his career with the Department of Information and Media under the Ministry of Information and Communications and was instrumental in the development of Information and Media in Bhutan. Having worked in the government, education and nonprofit institutions, he is knowledgeable and is an active agent of change in the Bhutanese media landscape and civil society. Dawa is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Thimphu, RI District 3292 and currently serves as the Director of Community Services for the Club.

Dr. Sangay Thinley, Retd. Director, World Health Organization

“I am keen to alleviate the suffering cancer brings not only through palliative and curative care but also through a preventive and public health approach”

Dr. Sangay Thinley is the Chairperson of Bhutan Cancer Society. Dr Sangay Thinley is a retiree who served as the Director in the WHO South East Asia Regional Office in Delhi. Prior to that he was the Health Secretary in the Royal Government of Bhutan. He also served as the Health and Education Secretary in the erstwhile Health and Education Ministry. He is a medical graduate (MBBS) from Bangalore Medical College in India (1980), a diploma holder of Institute of Dermatology in Bangkok (1986) and a Master of Public Health from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in USA (1991). While serving in various capacities in the health services, he also initiated the National STD/AIDS Programme and was the first National STD/AIDS Programme Manager.
